The beginning

The Just Us - And a Broken Criminal Justice System advocates are in contact with inmates and families and the common theme that we heard was how cut off the inmates felt, they have no control over anything. They can not employ the steps to protect themselves and they have no say so in their housing or treatment.  This is a recognizably frightening situation and panic can quickly consume a locked facility.  We wanted to come up with a symbol that can be displayed, much like ribbons for different demographics, or things that people are doing each day to show recognition for groups of people, a symbol that would spread across social media platforms, internet and in our cars and homes to raise awareness to the forgotten.  Thus was born the Out Of Sight Club.  The club that no one wants to be a member of.  A club that every advocate would like to see a decrease in members but we would like that decrease in membership to be brought about by releases and criminal justice reforms, not death from a virus or an outbreak of panic.

We are calling for ACTION on the part of The Department of Corrections, State and Local officials and the Federal Government. The prison system has always lacked transparency.  That needs to change!
